delusional, since 1991 *pew pew*

This is going to be a long blog entry, not so much in terms of words I am typing, but mostly due to the sheer size of a few videos I'm going to post. Just a little "quantity over quality" warning.

To get the boring "real life story" part of my blog entry out of the way, yes, today was another glorious day spent at home. And by "glorious day", I really do mean that it was a nice day today. The sun was shining, the sky wasn't clouded by grey storm clouds. It looked like spring or early summer. The temperature was chillier than summer or spring at 4 degrees C, but it was still really beautiful outside. But I spent my day indoors studying for CPSC 213 and watching the Tim Horton's Heritage Classic game between Calgary and Montréal. Calgary totally kicked butt.

My brother updated me on the whole Minecraft infiltration of the Swedish subway card contest today. Apparently there is a new Minecraft creature up for voting called the Sad Squid. I cannot facepalm any more at that name/idea/concept. Sad Squid. I haven't even played enough Minecrap to know what this Sad Squid thing looks like, but God forbid that it should resemble a blocky cubic squid that is frowning or, nay, crying. From the forum post:

*UPDATE*
The creeper made it to the finals.
The Pig will make it to the finals!
Sad Squid is up for voting!

Help the Squid become happy!
Click on "Rösta"/Rosta http://design.sl.se/bidrag/8469/- This could be on the Swedish subway cards!
Right, well... If a Minecrap critter makes it onto the subway card, I can just imagine my brother's latest arguments for wanting to go to Sweden: "THERE'S A MINECRAFT CREEPER/PIG/SQUID ON THE CARD. I HAVE TO GET ONE! AND I WANT TO MEET NOTCH." I mean, why would you choose a Minecrap thing over this delicious ice cream? Or these awesome cupcakes? (I'm really liking this Amanda Cullbrand woman, no lies. And if I'm being serious, okay, delicious desserts might not be such a great idea either. But hey, ice cream >>> cupcakes >>>>>>>>>>> Minecrap anything) ... And after going through a bunch of those entries (looking for more yumtastic entries), I've realized that I'm slowly picking up words (I think). >___> "Ett hjärte för dig" = "A heart for you", I believe (not Google translating to check). Oh Jesus, I've even come across an entry featuring Försberg, which I guess makes more sense than the JBiebz entry (no link for j00). Sverige är konstigt. So very konstigt. @____@

Speaking of yumtastic, and tying that into the Heritage Classic, someone on Twitter posted a picture of a special Tim Horton's Heritage Classic donut. I'm trying to figure out if that is Photoshop'd or something, but regardless, that looks delicious. I love Timmy Ho's donuts. And speaking of food and hockey...

Do not mention "East Side Mario's" to me. Do NOT. For those of you who are reading this, scratching your head, not comprehending the significance behind those three words concatenated in that order -- probably because you don't watch CBC during hockey games -- then let me show you the thing that haunts me in my dreams, the stuff of nightmares... THIS is East Side Mario's:

Oh and I came across this today after UndefinedLimit tweeted some East Side Mario's lyrics at me:

I miss those "History Will Be Made" commercials. I swear to God, CBC only ever spams this commercial during hockey games.

I'm also trying to decipher the lyrics to "To India's Shores". I'm am almost 100% certain that this song is about Christopher Columbus. I'll list my reasons after my attempt at transcribing...
She wears a ruby necklace
She's got those emerald eyes
Her pace is graceful
And her words are wise
Hoping my pleading
Can get the treaty signed
I tried so hard and failed again
But something's changed her mind

So my time has come
Nothing is impossible
It can be done
A course no navigator sailed before
To India's shores

The conquest of Grenada
Impossible they said
But she has courage
No one's ever had
She proved them wrong
And so will I
My dream will never die

So my time has come
Nothing is impossible
It can be done
I sail into the west, I'm showing
Everyone
That nothing is impossible
I'll be the one
To find a course no navigator sailed before
To India's shores

Oh, when I close my eyes
I see cities made of gold
And a land where nobody grows old

So my time has come
Nothing is impossible
It can be done
I sail into the west, I'm showing
Everyone
That nothing is impossible
I'll be the one
To find a course no navigator sailed before
To India's shores
Right, so...
  • Chris Columbus thought that he could reach India, and actually mistook America for India, hence the naming of aboriginal people as "Indians"
  • If I heard correctly, Grenada is mentioned and it is/was a Spanish colony, I think. I'm not well-versed in Spanish history or anything, but it seems kind of Hispanic and is giving me the "I got pwned by a European country" vibe.
  • I don't know why, but the "emerald eyes" and "ruby necklace" remind me of Isabella of Castille, and I think she was Columbus's benefactress and was responsible for the Grenada thing.
  • ... further Wikipedia research has confirmed the Columbus-Isabella-Grenada connection, though she apparently had blue eyes. Derp.
Anywho, I've found the lyrics for Kalafina's "Magia", as well as an English translation so I'm having fun trying to sing in Japanese. Let's hope that no one barges into my room (which is bound to happen) while I am mid-squeaky-voiced-Japanese-word. And if you made it alllllll the way to the bottom of this post, you deserve a hug. *e-hug*

It's spelled "hjärta", otherwise you are correct. :)

Hmmm, I haven't even played Minecraft, apart from the free online version without enemies. I'm such a n00b. Any reason for visiting Sweden is good, though. \o/

Also afshiasfhasfhafs TO INDIA'S SHORES IS AMAZING. I figured it was about Columbus too. BUT SERIOUSLY. IT'S FANTASTIC. THAT INTRO. THAT CHORUS. OM NOM NOM.

I thought I saw all of these parodies last spring, but not this one. Pretty brilliant. And don't worry, I won't support the East Side Mario's restaurant in the near future. I'm glad Subway got rid of its "FIVE! FIVE-DOLLAR! FIVE-DOLLAR FOOTLONG!" campaign as well for a more subtle $6 footlong commercial.

@Martin: Ahhh I was lying in bed last night saying "I missed a letter, I know I missed a letter, but I cannot think of what it is ADSFASDFJKL;" so thank you for correcting me! x) MINECRAFT IS NOT THAT GRATE OR ANYTHING. It's beta and still costs money. @___@ And about To India's Shores, I think I'm beyond asking you to kindly remove yourself from my head, good sir. :P

@Alvin: Oh God, yeah the Subway commercials are horrid. The last time I was watching a Habs game, I saw it in French: "CINQ! CINQ DOLLARS! CINQ DOLLARS, DOUZE POUCES!" That amused me greatly.
