So, I'm sitting here, listening to this and I'm thinking, "Is Michael Nyman some sort of jerk or ignorant douche or what?" 'cause he won't let Nightwish release their version of his song "The Heart Asks Pleasure First".
I mean, yeah, I get that it's his song and he has every right to say no, but PERSONALLY I would be tickled pink if someone wanted to cover a song of mine.
I could see if his argument is that the song's meaning/contextual value is lost with the lyrics being added, or that the feeling is totally changed with this arrangement. BUT his argument was that he doesn't like the electric guitars nor does he like the "heaviness". >.>
Regardless, I love Nightwish's take on "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" (yeah I guess it helps that I'm a fangirl lololol) and I'm still pretty pissed off at Michael Nyman for being so selfish and close-minded. :/
Teh lyrics (as far as people on the interwebz have put together):
Silent night surrounding me
On the shore of wistful sea
My kindest heart made me believe
The promise I wish it to be
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
Cast away into the sea
The good in me, the child within
The cruelest heart made me forget
In moments I wish it to be
Hold inside my last fire
You will conquer death by dawn
Slave to the toil, this mortal coil
Risked by the siren that voyage
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
An end for winter morn
Calling us, the sirens of the dark
Frozen moments in time
Little hideaways, the meadows of life
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
Silent night surrounding me
On the shore a voice so sweet
My kindest heart made me believe
The promise I wish it to be
