Beautiful cover. And I still think that Michael Nyman's being rather close-minded for disallowing this cover to be released. Srsly. He said that he doesn't like how it has electric guitar or that it's heavy.
For Pete's sake it's a COVER. Artists are supposed to change it up, otherwise it's a blatant ripoff of the original.
Yes, I'm probably very partial to this because it's Nightwish, but I do see MUCH MORE VALID reasons Nyman could claim. He could say that the original feel/meaning of the song is lost with this cover, or that the lyrics don't reflect what the song means to him.
But honestly, stating that it's the instrumentation that you don't like?!

And then there are the rumours that upon listening to Nightwish's version -- they sent it in to seek approval for release -- Nyman burned the tape.

Regardless, I think that this is a very cool/bombastic/rich cover of a lovely song.

EDIT: So I just tried playing it in my cold cold dining room, with my cold cold fingers. But my heart felt so warm. :) Gonna take a while for my fingers to coordinate properly again (srsly, my right hand wants to play what my left hand is supposed to -- EX-LEFTY FAIL). I don't want to do any schoolwork (though I'm behind due to last night's work shift), I just want to play some music. :D
