If Apple ever comes up with swanky boots that will specifically help short people like me hop over puddles (with the aid of propulsion or levitation or anti-gravity, IDK), they definitely should name them the iHop.
In case you actually remembered such a trivial detail as my having a lab on Fridays, I'll have you know that my prof addressed the failtastic lab issues this week (TAs not showing up, etc.) and my lab today was cancelled! Yaaay! And next week we'll be starting anew with lab 1 again, since I think 2 lab sections (out of 4?) were without TAs at some point this week. We also do not have a course website or Vista module -- which is quite sad given that it IS a Comp Sci course -- so there was no easy way to get a hold of lab materials or anything. I guess technically the other lab sections have a headstart, but it sounds like the lab is hard anyway.
Yesterday I neglected to jump on the blogging bandwagon and discuss the addition of a new zodiac sign: Ophiucus, aka some dude carrying a snake. I personally don't believe in horoscopes and astrology, but with this "new" system, I'm aware that my sign has changed. I suppose that I am no longer that melodramatic Leo. Alas, no, I am now an armoured crustacean. Good grief, Leo and Cancer are polar opposites (fire versus water, sun versus moon), too. That right there should be evidence enough that astrology is a load of codswallop. Consider this QED'd. /geekiness
Heh, my geekiness there reminded me of my 221 prof today, which in turn actually inspired the title and opening line of today's entry. We were discussing the speed of running programs based on equations, and the unit "nanocentury" came up. My prof said an easy way to think of a nanocentury is "pie seconds". Whether that was a typo on his powerpoint slides or a pun on his part, I will never know, though it did lead to a weird little anecdote which began with a short recitation of the first 20 decimal points of pi:
"3.14159265358979323846... That's how I met my wife; we met over pi(e). We discussed pi(e) over breakfast at the International House of Pancakes. Her roommate was an international student and so we were at the International House, and it was a pancake breakfast. I didn't get any pancakes."Anywho, I should get going to sleep so I can get epic amounts of reading done tomorrow. Looking back at yesterday and today's CPSC lectures, it feels really good to actually be able to follow what's going on in those courses.
Also, doing voice-leading exercises where the chord progression is already given to you is strangely enjoyable.

Ahh, okay, thanks for the clarification! I guess I'm still a Leo, then. :P
