... sleep now.
Said I wouldn't blog, but I lost all control... and I need sleep now.
And I don't know how I can do without... I just need sleep now.
Yes, I am alive.
Yes, my life has been busy.
Sure, I'll recount a bit of what it's been like.
Friday: I went out for dinner with my family as a sort of late Chinese New Years celebration. Unfortunately the meal was... yucky. The restaurant (Golden Swan, 38th & Victoria) just went through a change of ownership and a new chef was hired. It wasn't even the level of unprofessionalism regarding the menu (half of which was crossed out, and another quarter was of items that the new chef couldn't cook that not even the servers knew whether or not the chef could cook the dish), but rather the quality of the food. In short, the presentation of the food was as plain as I've ever seen it, the pancake thingies (I have no idea what they are, really) for Peking duck were stiff as boards, and the sauce for the lemon chicken was a veritable mess of lumpiness. Well, I can tell you right now that that restaurant is not going to be popular with anyone my family knows. I have to say though, this was definitely one of those occasions where everyone in my family had similar opinions so yay for family bonding?
Saturday: On Saturday me and my family woke up bright and early to go down to Seattle for the day. The purpose of this trip was to go see the Harry Potter exhibition at the Pacific Science Centre (I'm probably misspelling "centre". Oh well.). The trip down was about 3 hours, most of which I spent sleeping. It's been a few years since I've been to Seattle, but the space needle and Experience Music Project were familiar sights. I've been to the Science Centre before, but that was ages ago when those Science-World-y type places were novel to me. We pretty much got there just in time to pick up our tickets and walk to the exhibit. One thing to note was that we ran into some very nice Americans when we were parking the car in the super cramped parkade. Since there's a metre system or sorts, the folks in the spot we wanted gave us their receipt which would cover our parking until 3PM. We got there at about 11AM. That was pretty fantastic.
The exhibit itself was very cool. I was surprised at the varying ages of the people there. The couple in front of us during most of the tour was middle-aged to say the least (and childless as far as I could tell). I won't give away too much of the exhibit, but photography was forbidden so no pics for you guys. Unless you want to see the souvenirs I bought in the gift shop. All I can say is that I went in thinking that it would be somewhat boring as the exhibits were all movie props and costumes, but the scenery and setup were great and really captured the feel of the movies. I have to say that they definitely got a lot of the really badass props. Also, we weren't allowed to touch anything (except for the mandrakes, which we were supposed to pull up so we could hear their crying), but my mom (being who she is) of course reached out and unthinkingly touched a prop (the giant moving rook in the Philosopher's Stone chess game at the end). I wonder if she has some Rupert Grint DNA on her hands now or something.
After we were done with the exhibit, we headed home and stopped at a few of our usual smalltown shops to load up on that oh so exotic American food. And by exotic, I really do mean stuff that we don't get up here in Canada. Like some new candy (which we probably *will* get, but like months later and at a jacked up price) and some orange Mountain Dew. :O
Sunday: I just stayed home all day, played some Minecraft on my friend's server, and watched the Grammys. My friend and *his* friends remade the Parthenon and the pyramid of Giza on their server. They're also working on making a skytrain line. Pretty fantastic. I'm currently in the middle of exploring the pyramid without triggering any of the traps they set up. Oh yeah, I also really need to start working on some homework. Like my term paper. I'll do that in like 5 minutes.
Also, Happy Singles Awareness day, everybody! :)
Because couples are the most boring people ever. Ever.
And to pay my respects to the "Song of the Year"...
I swear, this is like the only "country" song I can get into. Big congrats to Lady Antebellum!
