Downtown

So. I was going to post this blog entry YESTERDAY NIGHT, but my internet was down so I saved what I had on a notepad and decided to post it today...

Downtown was nuts today. I have no idea why exactly it was this busy, but it was insane.
Cue my recap of the day...

So I woke up at 9:30am, ten whole minutes before my alarm, but I needed to wash my hair and stuff so I guess the extra time was good. I got my crap together, stuffed just my phone, chapstick, and wallet into my jacket pockets (I chose not to bring a bag today), and walked to the 49 bus stop. As I approached it, a (new) 49 bus went by and I was worried that it was the one I was intending to take. I checked the time on my phone and I realized that I was early for my bus. The bus ride (on another new 49 bus!) took maybe 15 minutes, a veritable record, so I scoffed at the headlines I read this morning regarding record-breaking transit ridership. And then I found out why that headline had been published.

I made my way up to the Metrotown skytrain platform and lo and behold, there was a train sitting there with its doors still open. I ran past 3 cars before finding one where there was enough room for a small Asian girl to stand. I hopped on and stood there. And stood there. And stood there. It took around 5-10 minutes before the skytrain finally moved after whatever dumb problem there was at Waterfront was fixed. There was another hold up while I was at Patterson and in total, it took 15 minutes to get from Metrotown to Joyce.

Once I finally made it to my destination (Main & Terminal station), I waited with a friend/co-worker for Thomas to arrive. Of course, he was fashionably late. The three of us walked to Science World, past the little stack of inukshuks, and all the way to... Stadium station. -__- We skytrain'd it to Granville, wandered to Robson street, wandered down to the cauldron, and relied on my previous failtastic transit experiences to find Waterfront station. We took the Canada Line down to Yaletown, hunted for a washroom for the co-worker/friend, and ate some decently-priced Japanese food. Because co-worker/friend needed to meet some family at 5:30pm, we decided against visiting the Coke Pavillion (which disappointed me sorely).

This left us with the only option of calling it a day and skytrain-ing back to Waterfront so we could switch to the Expo/Millennium line. So it was just me and Thomas -- a deadly combo. Silly me brought up Long & McQuade (which is right near Main station) and we ended up getting off at Main & Terminal to go chill at Long & McQuade a bit. Thomas tried out a few flutes and I was treated to a few songs he has to learn for school. We flipped through some sheet music, pissed off the employees, and left. That's when we realized that maybe we shouldn't have stopped at Long & McQuade. We hadn't even spent more than 30 minutes in there, but Main St. station now sported a line up that snaked its way onto the front lawn of the train station. So we decided against skytrain-ing home.

I realized that the 3 Main and 8 Fraser went by the Main St. station so we hopped on the next 8 Fraser and got off at our respective stops. Yes, I actually resorted to using the 49 bus. And it wasn't that slow or anything so I think it was a better choice in the end.

...Sometimes, I want my city back...
