Errrrrrrr. Okay. So my English research essay is on synesthesia. We were allowed to pick whatever topic we want and it's something that I'm pretty interested in. So today I spent my evening taking notes (on my computer) while reading a book I'm going to be using as research. I put it down because I was tired and ready to turn in for the night, but then my mom picked it up. She read the title out loud and asked what it was about and for. I explained the whole synesthesia thing to her and... she pretty much called me a freak and then called it all hogwash.

"Music doesn't have colours! You don't see anything!"
"Well, it's like in my mind's eye."
"Music is just grey, like your cat. Does it really have different colours?"
"... yes..."
Then I tried to justify why I chose it as my essay topic and gave more examples. I brought up the "it's like perfect pitch" (as in one thing -- numbers/letters/sounds -- directly evokes another) point and she seemed more okay after that because that reminded her that my brother seems to have relative pitch. And then she said that we're both weird.

It was like... coming out of the synesthesia closet. D:
I guess it was kind of shocking for me to think that songs/instruments don't have colour for most people.
And when she said that it was weird and freaky, it just... I don't know.

Regardless, I think that these books on synesthesia are absolutely fascinating.



Watching the news... they say that visible minorities are going up in Vancouver... lolol wow Mandarin Immersion?! Are you shitting me?!
The diversity? Soon it'll just be like Little Asia so I don't see much diversity there lol.
