Today my mind's been all over the place ("Oh, like normal," you say) so I'll do up a little list of things I made mental notes to myself about:

• ... I didn't wish anyone a happy Chinese New Year. I barely even remembered that it was today. If it weren't for the radio DJ's mentioning it while I was in the SUB this morning, I totally would not have remembered, save for a couple mentions on Twitter.
• My mom just came up to my room with a bowl of chips. "In an attempt to appeal to your Asianness, here are some lobster chips," she said, and plunked down a bowl of red chips in front of me. They tasted fairly generic in terms of seafood-flavoured Asian chips. Now I have crumbs all over the place. Greaaaaat.
• I don't understand why this Asian guy in the SUB was wearing a Reebok jacket that said "Sweden" on the back of it. In Swedish. o___o
• People annoy me. The first CPSC friend I told about my Guitar Hero party offered to invite people for me. [bitch] First of all, this is my party. At my house. I kind of would want to know who these invitees are. And I don't know *that* many people in CPSC so I don't think there would be much overlap between who he'd invite and the people I know and am comfortable enough with having at my place. Second of all, dude, I've known you for all of... 2-3 weeks? I never said that I was throwing this party specifically for CPSC peeps. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I started by saying that my friends were going to come to my place for a GH party. Please don't jump at the opportunity to invite people like it's half my party and half your party. It isn't. I'm being a possessive jerk, but it's the truth. [/bitch] I mean, I'd love for my group of friends to meet my CPSC friends so they know that I'm not just referring to phantom people all the time, but seriously.
• I didn't do any homework today... BUT I DID MAKE A WEBSITE. Here it is. It's going to be a fansite dedicated to my favourite band in the whole wide world. I don't think I'll have time to really add content/other pages until reading break (maybe) so you can take a look now, but don't expect any big changes or updates for a while.
• It's kind of depressing knowing someone who is kind of like you, but like a thousand times better. I would create a chart to compare and contrast but that would be unhealthy methinks.
• In an attempt to find some good in me, I will think about what my two little piano students said yesterday about how it was like "being in a music video" when I played something (but on an actual piano-not-keyboard it sounds loads better -- yay overtones!) I wrote for them. x)

I realized that if I don't specifically figure out what I need to get done, I don't get anything done. So, for my school career's sake, here's what's going down before reading break:

• Stat 241: assignment 2 [due Feb. 11]
• CPSC 221: midterm 1 [Feb. 7], weekly labs [due Monday]
• CPSC 213: weekly assignment [due Saturday night]
• Music 101: midterm [Feb. 10], assignment #5 [Feb. 10]
• Music 121: term paper [Feb. 21] (start it before reading break!!!!!)

Early mornings and long days at school are a brutal combination. I've been headachey all day and I'm pretty sure I could pass out right now, if I'd let myself. NOPE. NO SLEEPING. NOT AT 9:50PM.

As a computer science student, I can confirm that this is true:

No lies, I can think of ways to solve problems presented in my CPSC projects and assignments, but it's just the coding. My friend told me off today for using 5 lines of code when I could have very succinctly stuck it in 2. Well. Whatever. At least it works. That's my main priority when coding anything right now.

I am extremely busy this weekend and next week. Let's organize my life!

It's only the 2nd week back and everything is beyond hellish already. I'm thankful that there'll be some downtime after next week, presumably. Although I'm almost done my 213 assignment *crosses fingers*, I think that I won't be doing any reading this weekend. I need to put X number of hours into my assignments before I can finish them, and I can't afford to spend any of them on somewhat trivial things, like reading.

My past few days have been rather nondescript, but I'll go over the boring details for completion's sake.

Wednesday's classes went alright, and I was introduced to someone else in Stats. Nice. Alright. That brought the total up to 5. Yup, I save 5 seats in Stats for people, not including one for me. Only 2 of them ever seem to come early, and even then it's hit-or-miss. My classes were alright. Stats is starting to get too math-y for my tastes, but 221 seems to be taking mathematical equations and reducing them to simpler terms. My 213 lab also turned out alright and I sat with a girl I made friends with in Math 200. I found out that she went to Windermere, which then led to "Oh do you know _____?" and her being weirded out. I don't even know that many people from Windy. Despite the "alright"ness of my day, I was feeling really down for some reason. Strangely, the only one who seemed to notice was a woman I'd never met before -- a teacher I passed in the hallway at the school I volunteer at. Huh.

Thursday was a typical long day at school, complete with co-op workshop and time spent at my friend's dorm. No cake for me this time (the cake is a lie!), though I was spared the scary animé. I realized that I absolutely cannot pay attention to anything during my music history class. My prof is a good speaker, and he pronounces things in the original German or Italian so that's really good. It's just that I don't think I can just sit and focus for 1.5 hours straight. The same thing happens in 213. However, the encouraging thing is that when I pay attention in 213, it's like everything becomes really clear and I get it. Totally. In 121, I already am familiar with most things my prof lectures about so I just can't find that extra encouragement to listen.

I ought to get a start on my music assignment now. Or Stats. It never ends. D:

I saw this layout and thought it looked nice and thought that it was time for a change with the start of a new school term and all. Plus I need some inspiration for the layout that I'll make when I finally get around to it (probably never).

The weather has been rather typical as of late (a euphemism for "raining like crazy"). But does that explain why I said "leafs" instead of "leaves" yesterday? And no, I was not referring to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time. Strange. I was also a victim of the Canadian "sorry" today when someone walked into me on the bus. I don't really see what's wrong or overly polite about saying "sorry" when someone bumps into you. For me, yes, it's automatic, but when I think about it, I think I'm apologizing for being in the way. I suppose the goof could've looked where he was going before blindly walking into and stepping on me, but maybe I should've predicted where he would be going a little better. Anywho...

I realized that I didn't blog on Wednesday about my M/W/F classes because I was all wrapped up in the WJHC fever so I'll give my general thoughts and impressions now.

Starting at 8AM I have my Stats 241 class. When I first registered for this course I was confused by the incredibly small class size: 40 people in a lecture hall for 200 and 5 people per lab section. Upon entering the lecture hall it became apparent that this was a class of more than 40 people. It turns out that STAT 241 is combined with STAT 251, which is the required Stats course for Engineering students. 241 is essentially just for CPSC students, and the numbers are different for administrative house-keeping business. And lucky me, I get to save a seat for not only my CPSC friend, but also for my good friend's ex-boyfriend, and some guy from my high school also in CPSC who I'm not even on terms as friendly as those with my friend's ex, but rather civil acquaintanceship, I suppose. From the ex, I found out that it is in fact a 3rd year Engineering course. Huh. So not only am I going to be measured against those smarty pants Engineering kids, but also OLDER smarty pants Engineering kids. Greaaaaat. I do not foresee a very good mark, though I appreciate the eye candy. Smart eye candy. Also, my prof (a pretty cool 30-something year old) mentioned the WJHC and Under-17 on Wednesday so he is automatically a win in my books.

After an hour long break, I have my second CPSC course. I'm surprised I didn't blog about this class sooner given that my prof called on me in class, causing instant mortification for me. I won't relay the exact incident, but let's just say that today was better since there was no picking on me. This is probably the toughest course I'll be having this term, I'm thinking, since I will have to learn another programming language as well as completing projects in this language. At least I'm on good terms with my genius friend and he's nice enough to help me, though I know my stupidity irritates him sometimes. Today I sat with him, my friend also in Stats & CPSC 213, and my genius friend's friend who is a COGS student and is also in my Stats class. COGS actually sounds rather interesting as it is CPSC and Philosophy combined. Fancy that. Anywho we were a somewhat motley crew in class. Woo ethnic diversity and varying levels of stupidity!

I find it highly unfair that my genius friend (who is doing honours and a combined major) doesn't have to take my Stats course. If anything I thought that honours students would have to take more and harder courses!

As I was trying to get in the mood for doing some reading for Stats this evening, I came upon this video which shows the progress of 200 countries in the past 200 years. (And I know that eBaum's World is a rather suspect website in terms of some of its content, but I'm not a regular there and found this interesting:)

2010 is officially over now! It's been a long, stressful year. Of course, being a Vancouverite, the Olympics were one of the big highlights, but 2010 also marked the end of my first year of university and featured my first trip to Europe. But that is all in the past now; it's time to look ahead. Here are some resolutions of mine for the new year:

• pass all of my courses in term 2
• get back into a regular exercise routine
• minimize hunger complaints, no matter how much they amuse certain crazy people
• get a new webpage up and running
• work on & finish some creative endeavours
• minimize being anti-social
• have a real jam session -- hell, I don't care if we improvise on 4 chords
• don't let my room become the absolute shitstorm of papers and textbooks that it was this past term
• return work uniform (it's been... 2 months now. Oi.)
• clean my desk
• read The Iliad and The Odyssey (they are sitting here staring at me)

Oh how I long for utter silence

Well, I intend on getting some resources together on Monday for my term paper for Music 120. I'm pretty sure that if I dedicate 15-20 minutes every day from November 1 to 14, I can get my paper done, no problem. But balancing that with everything else... that'll be fun. Yes. Quite.

And on the other hand, I've just been notified that I'm good to go for a Co-op intake interview. So I'm one of 60-something people. Alright. Time to shiiiiiiiiiiine.

I wish I could blog about something more thought-provoking, but I'm hungry and stressed by school so this will have to do for now.
Plus my cat's on my lap sleeping and he is incredibly warm. I'm not really appreciating the extra warmth, cat. Do you have any idea how warm it is in this house?! D:

My brain feels very fuzzy. And I am sick of my mom asking me who I'm talking to online. I should probably just stay in my room on my laptop and never go back downstairs to use my desktop ever again. Except my music notation software is on THAT computer and not this one. T____T Dayum.

I've also been horribly distracted by articles on Cracked.com. Again. Yes. It's like I can forget that that site exists for about two months and then in the throes of procrastination, I go back and YAY THERE ARE TONS O' NEW ARTICLES I HAVEN'T READ YET.

Like I found this one about StarCraft being a professional sport and all. Crazy stuff. And another one (by the same columnist) about how it can suck sometimes being Chinese.

OH WELL. BETTER CRACKED THAN TVTROPES. I could waste the rest of my life on TVTropes. =_______=

And since I'm finished with midterms for this month, let's try and figure out all the things I need to catch up on before the next wave of midterms...

I'm really proud of myself for finishing up my resume and it actually looks nice and everything. :)
Now that I've thought about it, I really want to do Co-op now. @________@ I'm sick of school. I'm sick of studying. I remember working and thinking that it's actually a lot easier than school, somehow. Maybe it's because once you leave the workplace, you're pretty much free for the rest of the night. You aren't still tied by the need to study or by homework/labs/assignments waiting to be done.
And of course I want to go back to Europe. Like, badly.
I can't even fully go into why I want to go back so badly. It's a combination of things tangible and indescribable. I miss the history, I miss the architecture, I miss the excitement of being somewhere else.
Well, the Co-op coordinator DID say that it's better to go outside of the country for Co-op placements due to the insane competition here, so who knows~~~

Yes, I'm taking 2 days off from internet socialization to TRY and catch up on real life schoolwork and stuff like that~

Ughhhhhh. Where is my assignment partner?! Srsly! D: I admit that I feel like I've done practically nothing for this assignment. My brain has gone off the side of a cliff for this entire past week and only a few days ago did I start getting more than 4-5 hours of sleep. I now get a whopping 6 hours of sleep. Jej! =______= And I feel so bad that my partner has done so much of the work, but I can't speed my recovery. I can't think properly these days.
I just want to sit here and zone out to music, or sleep. I'm not feeling creative at all or productive or much like  a human right now. And I'm going through a bout of self-doubt in terms of school and everything.
I wish I was a white person and could just do whatever degrees I wanted and not be so "OMG YOU NEED TO GET A JOB"-oriented like a goshdarn Asian. Yesterday I was feeling very much like I wasn't meant for this stupid world and its stupid societal roles and stupid jobs and stupid monies. STUPID. I want to live life for life and happiness, not for a nine to five job or to put a meal on a table. I want to smash the control machine, but I don't think I can.

Trip-hop makes my brain sleepier and my eyes go cross-eyed. I think I'm only using my left eye right now to look at the screen while my right is off being lazy somewhere~

Or else I will end up like a hermit living in that addictive shoutbox, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WHO FREQUENTS IT. Except everyone else is taking yay Arts courses so they can afford to blab in there all day long.

So the only place in Europe I didn't blog about is Holland. I don't feel like saying much about it, but the Red Light District was... disturbing. And they have a weird obsession with cows in the Netherlands.

Because I know that my mom is going to steal my post-it note with all my work shifts on it, I'll record them here so I have easy-ish access:

So this summer, I have like 4 work shifts for May and they are all Saturdays.

Today: finished 9.2 & 9.3 for Math

Sunday: finish up 9.4 & 9.5 & 9.6 for Math, start English paper!!!, prep CPSC lab
Monday: prep CPSC lab if not finished, prep for Phys lab exam D:, do sample Math test [postpone to Tuesday I tried but it was too hard :(], work on Engl paper
Tuesday: review Math [did on Monday], Engl paper!!
Wednesday: work on paper, catch up on Phys reading :(
Thursday: read Psyc? MUSE CONCERT
Friday: partay! (probably can't stay late because I have to help clean house :( )
Saturday: clean house, catch up on readings for other courses, go out for dinner, work on paper, MASTERINGPHYSUCKS
Sunday: partay!

I need to make plans for how to study and do homework or else I won't get anything done and I'll end up being a bum on the street.

Tuesday: Math homework (9.2) -- CANNOT FINISH HOLY JESUS SO HARD D:, study hardcoar foar CPSC midterm some moar
Wednesday: ptfo when I get home from CPSC midterm, maybe read some moar for Engl?
Thursday: read Psyc, read Phys, START ENGL RESEARCH PAPER!!!
Friday: Math homework (9.3/9.4), work on Engl paper -- probably postponed to Saturday so I can have fun :D
Saturday: Math homework (9.5/9.6), work on Engl paper -- probably postponed to Sunday
Sunday: read Psyc, do moar Math practice stuff

And procrastination ends... in 5 minutes lol
