As my brother calls them.
Technically I should be working on my music theory assignment due Wednesday (why, Dr. Bob, whyyyyyyy?), but I will do something else music-related and blog about the concert I went to last night.
In short: It was spectacular.
In long: ... Well, check under the cut.
So I got a pair of earrings for Christmas. I tried to put them on today.
They were too big for my piercings. I forced them in.
My right ear kind of hurts right now. And it's itchy.
That isn't good, is it? D:
In other news...
GUESS WHO HAS HER OWN HELLO KITTY GUITAR PICK NOW? :D
LONG POST IS LONG.
As my stalker voiced interest in the Kamelot song I posted a while back, this will be a post dedicated to Kamelot (pronounced: KAH-meh-lot, like Camelot of Arthurian legend) and will include some of their songs.
So the basics.
Kamelot...
- is an American symphonic power metal band with progressive influences (whew) with a Norwegian singer and German keyboardist. They're still based in America, though.
- has released 8 studio albums, 3 live albums, 1 live DVD (WHICH I NEED TO GET MY HANDS ON, LIKE A REAL COPY, LIKE, RIGHT NOW), 6 music videos, and 1 re-issue
- has not come to Vancouver, BC. YET. They've been to Ontario & Quebec, but western Canada has not been graced by their presence. YET.
Enough with the basics.
The albums.
I don't even want to listen to the old albums with their old, insanely cheesy singer, so I'm just going to rank the ones I have heard (and ADORE).
- The Black Halo - my #1 album of all time!!!!
- Epica
- Ghost Opera
- Karma
- The Fourth Legacy
- Siege Perilous
The songs.
These are my absolute favourite Kamelot songs and generally, these are the ones I recommend to people. WARNING: I love Kamelot. Srsly. This list already will be a narrowed down list. If you want to see all the Kamelot tracks I love, click here.
"When The Lights Are Down"
This is my #1 song. Ever. Turn up the volume and get immersed in the epic layering of vocal lines and insanely fast guitarwork.
"The Haunting (Somewhere In Time)"
This is my very first Kamelot song. I love the lyrics (which probably can only be understood if you follow the story) and the vocal harmonies. I think that this is one of their most accessible songs. NOT THEIR BEST, BUT GOOD.
"The Black Halo"
If you set this song as your alarm clock for waking up at 7 in the morning, you will have a heart attack. Or at least, it will feel like one. I love that this sweet little Italian interlude leads into this beast of a track. The guitars and strings work so damn well together. Again, love the lyrics. AND THAT CHOIR WORK.
"Wander"
Lovely little ballad. Work that vibrato!
"Abandoned"
Another absolutely stunning power ballad. Definitely great for showing off the singer's range and that last repeat of the chorus is epic. The piano intro is so pretty ;_;
"March Of Mephisto"
If you don't like death grunts/growls/that sort of business, I might suggest laying off this song for a bit. I admit, it took me a while to get into this song, but it's a great energizer and now I love it. :)
"The Human Stain"
I love pretending to play this song. I go from air bass to air guitar to air keyboard to air drums + singing. Probably my fave track from Ghost Opera.
Other kickass Kamelot songs which I won't embed because your scrollbar will be 1 pixel high...
- Forever
- The Edge Of Paradise
- Center of the Universe
- EdenEcho
- Memento Mori
- Ghost Opera
Okay that's enough. For now. ;D
MEGGIE, I just checked with Eric and his place is not available NYE. T^T But I think he's in on the plan. LOL, he told me to skip the movie marathon so I could play beer pong with you guys.
Anyone have their place available NYE? D:
But yes, the plan...
"How to Play a Player"
Okay. Please refer to this before continuing reading.
This is going to be epic, if we get all the parts down. It could be glorious. It might possibly be the most epic end to a year ever to exist. So far.
So. The backstory...
Maybe it's a white thing. Maybe not. That, I cannot know. But do I really want to be going to 2 Jackass-hosted events 2 days in a row?
If I knew any of the people there, maybe. But with things the way they are, no. Hell no.
But I kind of already said yes to going, since I didn't have any NYE plans at that time. And the movie marathon invite came weeks before the Giants game invite. And who would seriously turn down free hockey tix?! I did consider backing out of the movie thing. I really did. Especially after chatting to my favourite group of friends. <3
But there is an alternative. And it is beautiful.
It is also exciting and thinking about it makes me feel good.
I never thought that I could get wrapped up in something like this -- these sorts of plans are planned by other people for other people. Not for/by people like me.
But I don't mind. I'm not generally a vengeful person, but I think that it'd be sweet to have some fun with this. How often am I going to be in a situation like this? Not very often, I hope. @_@
So even if it doesn't even bother the Jackass at all, at least we'll have had fun planning it. ;D
Taking a page from Alex's book...
Lesson #1: GET ENOUGH SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE A MIDTERM. ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A RETARDED SUBJECT LIKE CPSC.
That was like the worst midterm I've written so far. Mmm yeah, actually, it was even worse than Math. And Math was pretty bad. D:
Effing sample exams mean NOTHING. Nothing, I tell you! D:<
I just wish that I had thought more clearly and had had more time.
Kind of.
I'm looking at these CPSC midterms going: "Uh, I don't think that we have to know this stuff (so my prof said."
And it's kind of making me feel panicked. But at the same time, I feel pretty freaking sure that we don't need to know all this array stuff. My prof wouldn't lie to us. T^T
Nothing like a blue blue blue duet to make your sleep-deprived mind believe in magic. Makes me feel peaceful.
OH OH OH. I FEEL TOO TIRED TO TAKE A PIC OF THE AWESOMENESS MY BROTHER POSSESSES, BUT I FOUND IT ONLINE (easier to share)...
*drumroll*
This.
Or if you don't want to visit an external website...
THIS IS MY BIG "MUST LEARN" PIECE FOR THE NEXT YEAR OR SO.
And it's all because of this. D:
Beautiful cover. And I still think that Michael Nyman's being rather close-minded for disallowing this cover to be released. Srsly. He said that he doesn't like how it has electric guitar or that it's heavy.
For Pete's sake it's a COVER. Artists are supposed to change it up, otherwise it's a blatant ripoff of the original.
Yes, I'm probably very partial to this because it's Nightwish, but I do see MUCH MORE VALID reasons Nyman could claim. He could say that the original feel/meaning of the song is lost with this cover, or that the lyrics don't reflect what the song means to him.
But honestly, stating that it's the instrumentation that you don't like?!
And then there are the rumours that upon listening to Nightwish's version -- they sent it in to seek approval for release -- Nyman burned the tape.
Regardless, I think that this is a very cool/bombastic/rich cover of a lovely song.
The lyrics (as far as we've deciphered on Last.fm):
Silent night surrounding meEDIT: So I just tried playing it in my cold cold dining room, with my cold cold fingers. But my heart felt so warm. :) Gonna take a while for my fingers to coordinate properly again (srsly, my right hand wants to play what my left hand is supposed to -- EX-LEFTY FAIL). I don't want to do any schoolwork (though I'm behind due to last night's work shift), I just want to play some music. :D
On the shore of wistful sea
My kindest heart made me believe
The promise I wish it to be
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
Cast away into the sea
The good in me, the child within
The cruelest heart made me forget
In moments I wish it to be
Hold inside my last fire
You will conquer death by dawn
Slave to the toil, this mortal coil
Risked by the siren that voyage
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
An end for winter morn
Calling us, the sirens of the dark
Frozen moments in time
Little hideaways, the meadows of life
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
We'll bear the wait
Years for your heart
Little hideaways for a lonely heart
Silent night surrounding me
On the shore a voice so sweet
My kindest heart made me believe
The promise I wish it to be
OH DAMN, NANOWRIMO STARTS TOMORROW. T^T
To elaborate on my tweet.
What happened today in CPSC... I talked to that random stranger dude.
No, I didn't demand to know why he was suddenly sitting kinda next to me.
No, I didn't even ask if he was looking for me on Friday (but he hasn't craned his neck to look around on the days where he's sat down kinda next to me).
I asked for help on this stupid-ass assignment.
And he gave me some advice. And I got his e-mail. And he offered to give me more help. x) WHICH I HAVE A FEELING, I AM GOING TO NEED.
So he had moved into the seat next to me and, okay I have to admit, my throat was so dry, I felt like every freaking time I had to swallow he would hear and move away and be all like "PSHHH THIS GIRL'S 'TARDED". But he just worked away on making some more Java games as I looked on in total awe. Like holy crap. This kid should not be in this class, sitting anywhere near me. My dumbness might be contagious.
Anyhow.
I think he's pretty awesome now. And I'm arguing with myself over asking for his help. Can I prove myself to be any dumber than I already have? D:
Oh. And I was being a creep on facebook and found him ('cause he's got a very... uniquely spelled name). I saw that he plays ball hockey, took AP Physics, and loves the good ol' NES.
OKAY I JUST SENT AN E-MAIL.
I GUESS THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN IS THAT HE SAYS "PSHHHH SCREW OFF, I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU" AND I'LL HAVE TO ASK SOMEONE ELSE FOR HELP OR SOMETHING.
I AM IN A GOOD MOOD.
Kinda.
I have a lot of schoolwork to catch up on, but I worked on some lyrics for something in class on Friday and I'm still feeling good, lol.
ANYHOW.
Now for some nice songs. :)
Okay, just tell me that this song isn't cute. Yeah. Mm-hm. I thought so:
Surprisingly not focused on their lead singer:
Cool story in the lyrics (and gorgeous orchestration):
Sweet cover:
HAI, I LUFF THIS INTRO:
Another cool cover of an old, not that well-known song:
Kind of creepy music video, but I've watched it so much, it doesn't scare me at all anymore:
THE END.
FOR NOW.
It is epic.
It is a box.
It is.
Epic box.
Btw, the music is Nightwish's "Ghost Love Score" (epic song, btw, in case you didn't notice ;D).
